Before Battle Of Yermouk (Iqbal's Jung-e-Yermouk Ka Ek Waqeya)

                                                Battle Of Yermouk
                                            (Iqbal’s Jung-e-Yermouk)

The Arab youths armed with swords stood lined up,
The bride-like land of Syria was awaiting them,

                            A youth restless like mercury,
Came and addressed the army chief,

O Abu Obaidah! Permit me to join the battle,
My bowl of patience and peace is brimful,

I am becoming impatient in the separation of the prophet, (sal.)
Even a moment’s living is unwanted in the love,

I am going in the court of the prophet, (sal.)
I will happily carry if there be any message,

Seeing this taste and eagerness that eye became tearful,
Whose glance was like an unsheathed sword,

Chief of the army said that thou art that youth,
The old too necessarily should respect thy devotion,

May God of Mohammed fulfil thy wish! (sal.)
How very high is the place of thy devotion!

When thou reacheth in the court of the trustworthy prophet, (sal.)
After salutation make this representation from my side,

The high-minded Lord has done favour to us!
Prophet’s assurances given to us were accomplished!(sal.)

(Suggestions invited to make the above more exact.)
